Lloyd’s is the world leader in the insurance market, and is located in an award-winning modern building in Lime Street in the City of London, however, it originated in the most modest of a seventeenth-century café environment in the XVII century, the significance of London as a center of business ultimately led to the increment of the demand for cargo insurance. Edward Lloyd’s coffee shop became a recognized place to obtain a maritime insurance and was where the Lloyd’s of London we know today originally began.
Lloyd’s has been a pioneer in insurances and grew to become the world leader in the market for specialized insurances and re-insurances. For over 100 years, Lloyd’s has never failed to pay a valid claim, in fact, it is attributed to have paid the Titanic sinking in 1912 with the sum of 1,000,000 British Sterling Pounds with a premium of 7,500 British Sterling Pounds.
